About Me
My journey in mental health began with a heartfelt desire to make a positive impact in people's lives, a passion that has been with me since as far back as I can remember. Fueled by this passion, I embarked on a journey of learning, earning my Bachelor's degree in Psychology from West Chester University. Throughout my academic journey, I eagerly embraced opportunities for growth through practicum and internship experiences. One particular highlight was providing compassionate care to women navigating trauma and substance use at a rehabilitation facility, where I witnessed the incredible power of holistic healing.
Learn About ACT
Motivated to deepen my impact, I pursued a Master's degree in counseling at Arcadia University, focusing on mental health. For 3 years, I dedicated myself to a community-based mental health agency, providing individual and group therapy to a diverse clientele. From facilitating hospital discharge groups to supporting individuals through life's transitions, each interaction left a lasting impression on my journey. I've had the privilege of supporting adults facing challenges such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, and stress, utilizing a range of therapeutic modalities including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Psychodynamic Therapy. However, it's Acceptance and Commitment Therapy that truly ignites my passion.
What is ACT?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is rooted in the understanding that the struggle against painful emotions is often counterproductive. Instead, ACT encourages a mindful acceptance of these emotions while focusing on actions that align with one's values. It is about living a life true to oneself, even in the face of challenges.
The goal of ACT is to foster psychological flexibility – the ability to be open, adaptable, and resilient in the face of life's difficulties. By cultivating acceptance, mindfulness, and commitment to values-driven actions, ACT aims to break the cycle of avoidance and enhance overall well-being.
ACT for Anxiety &
Depression
In treating anxiety, ACT can help individuals acknowledge and accept their anxious thoughts and feelings without judgment, allowing them to develop mindfulness skills to observe these thoughts and detach from them. This approach reduces the impact of anxiety on daily functioning and empowers individuals to engage in meaningful activities despite their anxiety.
ACT can help individuals battling depression to accept their depressive symptoms while focusing on actions aligned with their values. Through mindfulness and behavior change, ACT assists individuals in breaking free from negative thought patterns and engaging in behaviors that contribute to a more fulfilling life.
Support for Introverts
In therapy sessions with introverts, I prioritize creating a safe space where silence is respected and valued, and I integrate various therapeutic approaches, such as mindfulness techniques, journaling exercises, and creative expression, to cater to different communication styles and preferences. This approach empowers introverted clients to explore their inner world at their own pace and in ways that feel authentic to them. Through compassionate listening and being gentle encouragement, I help introverted individuals harness their strengths, navigate social challenges, and cultivate a deeper understanding of themselves. Together, we work towards their therapeutic goals in a manner that honors their unique temperament and fosters personal growth.
